SOUTHWEST GREENSBURG FIRE UNITS WERE DISPATCHED TO ASSIST THE CITY OF GREENSBURG FOR A POSSIBLE APARTMENT FIRE AT 726 EASTMONT DR. . WHEN UNITS ARRIVED HEAVY SMOKE WAS VISIBLE. BECAUSE OF THE EXTREMELY COLD WEATHER MANY RESIDENTS DID NOT IMMEDIATELY LEAVE THE STRUCTURE AND BECAME ENTRAPPED. FIREFIGHTERS CONTAINED THE FIRE TO ONE APARTMENT UNIT WITH A SMALL AMOUNT OF EXTENSION INTO THE ATTIC AREA.

Started by an unattended kerosene heater in the basement, the family renting this house was lucky they did not lose all their belongings. The call was dispatched as a house fire with entrapment because the neighbor that reported the fire saw the family's car outside the residence. After two complete searches of the home, it was later discovered that they were out running errands in a second vehicle. Firefighters had to battle the blaze in single digit temperatures. Because of the age and construction of the house, the fire was able to travel from the basement to the attic inside the walls.
